NEW SEU BUILDING
Pioneer now has a new Special Education Unit building! The building, which has two full-sized classrooms, a computer room and a huge cooking area is situated between the library and the basketball courts. This term, the main focus has been on providing the building with electricity, data cabling, security and also with finishing the wheelchair ramps.
We not only have a new building - we will be acquiring a brand new outdoor area. The entire area surrounding the building is being landscaped with gardens and pavers.
VOICE RECOGNITION
Voice recognition using the Dragon Naturally Speaking programme, is once more in full swing. Many year 8 students are now able to get help with assignments and school work, as this programme enables them to speak into a microphone and have their speech put directly on tot the computer screen. One student was heard to say "Gee I've finished my assignment by voice - it would have taken ages if I had to do it by hand!"
This programme has been available to Pioneer High Students for many years now, and has truly helped those who have the brains, but just cannot write down their thoughts.
